Good Essential Oils for Children

“Wrists please” this is the ritual each morning in our house.   “Ok who needs what”?

Usually at this stage I know who needs what but I like to give them a chance to pick their own oils as well.

Often times it is Balance, especially on mornings when there is a school test and one of them is a little worried. It just really does exactly what it says; it brings balance to our minds.   We are neither over stimulated nor scattered, we are just balanced.

Lemon is another favourite especially with Iarlaith my five year old.   Lemon is great for the left side of the brain and so is wonderful for helping him focus at school. When you are five, or any age, it is nice to get a little help with getting what we are supposed to get done, done!!

And then of course there is good old Wild Orange. This is the one that gets the creative juices flowing and is great for stimulating the right side of the brain. As well as being the oil of abundance it has a beautiful scent and is a firm favourite.

Before the wrists I will have put On Guard on the soles of their feet, a wonderful place to put oils as the pores on the feet are very large so the oils get into the bloodstream fast and get to work. Using On Guard has kept colds and all those other nasty classroom bugs away and has kept any symptoms they have gotten to the very minimum. I keep a few bottles of On Guard around the house now, as it is real “go to” oil for so many things!

Bedtime rituals for the children change too depending on what is needed.   Always On Guard again on their feet (handy also to put any oil on the feet if someone doesn’t like the smell of a particular oil but know that it will benefit them). I have started to give Conal who is 10 Vetiver for a peaceful night and every now and again it will be Frankincense.   Frankincense is known as the oil of truth and I find it can help at an emotional level if there is a story going around his head that he is not sure what to do with!

If there are any upset stomachs DigestZen is the “go to” oil for both children and adults.

For anyone having bed-wetting issues two good oils to aid with this are Bergamot and Cypress. These can be applied topically if using natural oils or otherwise check the label of your oils for correct usage.
