Addictions come in all shapes and sizes but ultimately they have one job .. to mask our fears. Addictions are not just the usual suspects of smoking, drinking, gambling there are also addictions to being sick, an addiction to being in debt .. you name it. A smoker, when a trigger is set off i.e. someone says something to upset them will automatically light up a cigarette, if the phone rings and they know it will be a gossipy type conversation they will say “Hang on a minute until I get my cigarettes!”. Addictions are crutches and all of us have had them and some of us still have them! For a gambler the fear of going home with no pay cheque left can lead them to put just one more bet on a horse .. always just one more.
You will often hear people say that alcoholism or some other addiction is genetic .. but is it? Is it just the little child’s acceptance of what their parents are doing?
High end addictions can have very many aspects, very many memories, feelings, hurts, angers, all sorts of emotions going on. I do not believe that a child comes into the world and decides at a young age that they want to grow up to be a drug addict. Many situations come into our life and we have choices as to which road to take. There are addicts in all walks of life, the people who have grown up with dysfunctional families, the people who have grown up with multi millionaire parents and the middle of the road people who get caught up in drugs or other high end addictions for one reason or another.
A person can also be addicted to rejection and attract people constantly who will reject them. Because like attracts like you will find that people like this often reject themselves and thereby attract others who will ultimately reject them.
Overeating is often associated with protection – adding a layer of protection to keep the bad things away from us thereby covering up the real reason for overeating .. fear.
Some people are addicted to being right .. imagine how exhausting a life for these people is … the waste of energy in proving their points day in and day out.
Advertising and commercials fuel addictions for some people. We are constantly bombarded and being told that we must have this and that in our life – the trouble is someone somewhere actually believes it all.
If you are suffering from an addiction of some sort please know and be aware that no matter what it is it can be stopped. With a therapy like EFT not only is the addiction dealt with but also the fear of the fear .. the fear of the future without your addictive habit …
You are never too old, too young, too ugly(!), too beautiful or too .. anything to end a life of addictions. Habits are meant to be broken .. break your addiction habit today and take back your control.
Until next time … keep the faith,
